During the old days of the Cold War analysts used to run thousands of scenarios on how a global thermonuclear war might begin. Many had the then two supper powers US and Soviet Union, launching missiles at each other, but some had a war erupting out of the Middle East or potential between India and Pakistan. How tolerant do think Israel is going to be once another radical terrorist group like the Taliban gets its hands on nuclear weapons. Obama's weakness on foreign policy and unwillingness to take a strong stand on the nuclear issue does not comfort one. Over at the WSJ John Bolton has a great column on The Taliban's Atomic Threat. A key quote, representative of the Obama approach to international threats:
Contrary to Western "international nannies," the primary conflict motivators in both countries are ethnic and tribal loyalties, religious fanaticism and simple opportunism. It is not a case of the "have nots" rising against the "haves," but of True Believers on a divine mission. Accordingly, neither greater economic assistance, nor more civilian advisers upcountry, nor stronger democratic institutions will eliminate the strategic threat nearly soon enough.
